Leading innovation in large-diameter, recycled aluminium billets

At EGA Leichtmetall, innovation has shaped our work for more than nine decades.

From inventing the continuous casting process in Hanover in the 1920s, to today producing one of the world’s largest billet diameters, we have consistently advanced secondary aluminium production to meet the toughest demands.

We specialise in high-strength hard alloy billets with up to 99 per cent secondary aluminium, produced using 100 per cent renewable electricity*. Our approach is based on close collaboration with customers. Our proprietary furnace systems and advanced process controls enable us to meet precise performance requirements for critical applications and meet our customers’ individual needs.

As part of Emirates Global Aluminium, we combine decades of innovation with the scale of the world’s largest ‘premium aluminium’ producer. Together, we aim to shape the future of aluminium production through continuous improvement, process innovation, and a shared commitment to sustainable progress.

Continuous Casting

The continuous casting process was originally developed at our Hanover site in the 1920s and changed aluminium production worldwide. This groundbreaking process ensures a consistent microstructure delivering the enhanced strength, durability, and corrosion resistance of our billets. These benefits make it the process of choice for high-performance aluminium applications. Our skilled engineers have continued to advance it ever since.

Custom solutions

For many of our customers, meeting standard specifications is not enough. We deliver tailored solutions including small batch production, short lead times and alloy variants beyond established standards to meet their requirements.

Customisation at this level demands rigour at every step of production. Every hard alloy billet is tested throughout the production process, from raw material input through casting and machining to final inspection. Our quality documentation and full process transparency allow customers to validate critical parameters and integrate our billets seamlessly into their own production systems.

Ahead of its time

Innovation has always been part of how we think and work at EGA Leichtmetall. Over the decades, we have consistently invested in technologies and processes before they became industry standard and continue to do so today.

This includes the early adoption of inductive melting, the development of specialised furnaces, and the introduction of advanced quality control systems tailored to customer-specific demands.

As industries evolve, so do the expectations for aluminium products. By anticipating these changing demands, we help our customers to stay ahead.
