Aluminium for the marine sector
High-performance aluminium solutions engineered and produced in Germany for demanding marine environments
In marine engineering, material performance is essential for safety, durability, and efficiency.
Aluminium offers a high strength-to-weight ratio, resistance to corrosion in saltwater, and excellent machinability – making it a reliable choice for shipbuilding, offshore platforms, and for marine equipment. Aluminium is an essential material to deliver reliable performance from inland waterways to the most challenging open sea environments.
Aluminium can be recycled infinitely without loss of material quality. Its long service life and recyclability help reduce the need for primary metal and can lower overall resource consumption in maritime applications. By integrating aluminium, maritime companies can enhance operational reliability while also supporting the implementation of sustainable solutions.
Our products are manufactured in accordance with the Approval of Manufacturer certification DNV-CP-0248 for wrought aluminium alloys in shipbuilding. Ideal alloy families for marine applications include:
Continuous casting for uniform microstructures in marine products
At EGA Leichtmetall, we produce high-strength aluminium billets through continuous casting, ensuring a uniform microstructure, superior mechanical properties, and reduced defect rates compared to conventional ingot casting. Our billets are manufactured using 100 per cent renewable electricity* and contain around 80 per cent secondary aluminium on average, supporting sustainability objectives without compromising performance.
We can produce billets up to 1,080 mm in diameter, enabling the machining of large, complex marine components such as propeller hubs, structural blocks, deck equipment, and offshore installation parts. Our rigorous quality assurance includes multi-stage sampling and metallographic analysis. Every batch undergoes chemical composition analysis and hydrogen measurement to ensure compliance with sector-specific standards.
We tailor our alloy selection and process parameters to meet the specific environmental and mechanical demands of the marine sector.
*procured from renewable electricity suppliers via the public grid, verified through Guarantees of Origin that are cancelled in the German Federal Environment Agency's Registry.
