Aluminium for mechanical engineering

High-performance aluminium billets engineered and produced in Germany for demanding machinery and equipment applications

Aluminium is used in mechanical engineering components ranging from structural frames to shafts and precision parts because of its strength, corrosion resistance, and excellent machinability properties.

Consistency across production batches ensures predictable performance and reliable assembly in demanding engineering applications.

With the growing requirements for efficiency and sustainability, aluminium has also become increasingly important for modern machinery design and equipment manufacturing. Its lightweight and thermal conductivity properties support energy efficiency, operating cost control and reliable operation in high-load systems.

Our products are manufactured in accordance with our EN 9100:2018 certified quality management system. Ideal alloy families for mechanical engineering applications include:

Continuous casting for uniform microstructures in mechanical engineering products

At EGA Leichtmetall, we produce high-strength aluminium billets through continuous casting, ensuring uniform microstructure, superior mechanical properties, and reduced defect rates compared to conventional ingot casting. Our billets are manufactured using 100 per cent renewable electricity* and contain around 80 per cent secondary aluminium on average, supporting sustainability objectives without compromising performance.

We can produce billets up to 1,080 mm in diameter, enabling the machining of large and complex components such as rollers, shafts or impeller wheels. Our rigorous quality assurance includes multi-stage sampling and metallographic analysis. Every batch undergoes chemical composition analysis and hydrogen measurement to ensure compliance with sector-specific standards.

We collaborate with mechanical engineering companies to tailor alloys and processes that achieve the right balance between strength, machinability, and cost efficiency.

*procured from renewable electricity suppliers via the public grid, verified through Guarantees of Origin that are cancelled in the German Federal Environment Agency's Registry.
