EN AW-2618 / A
EN AW-2618 / A is a high-strength, hardenable aluminium wrought alloy originally developed for aerospace engineering.
To unlock its full potential, heat treatment such as solution annealing followed by artificial aging is required. This alloy combines strength, good machinability, and average corrosion resistance. Its high temperature resistance makes it suitable for applications requiring strength at temperatures up to 300°C. For example, we can reduce beryllium content by a factor of 500, ensuring ultra-low levels for enhanced safety and compliance.
We offer EN AW-2618 / A turned billets in diameters ranging from 140 mm to 1,080 mm, tailored to meet your specific needs.
EN AW-2618 / A applications
EN AW-2618 / A is primarily used in turbine or engine construction, wherever high strength at elevated temperatures is required. Its primary applications include:
- Aerospace: High-strength structural parts, fuselage and wing frames.
- Automotive: Pistons and other components for high-performance engines.
- Defence technology: General structural components that must withstand elevated temperatures.
- Mechanical engineering: Precision-machined parts.
Mechanical properties
The mechanical properties of EN AW-2618 / A support its use in high-temperature environments. Although there is no standard for cast round rods, a Brinell hardness of approximately 83 HBW in the homogenised state serves as a reference value for cast material. This state is comparable in strength to the annealed state ("O") for extruded products. Final strength can be adjusted through reshaping processes or heat treatments performed by our customers.
