EN AW-4032
EN AW-4032 is a high-strength, hardenable aluminium wrought alloy.
To achieve its full potential, heat treatment such as solution annealing followed by artificial aging is required. It offers the highest achievable strength within the 4000 group and is often used as a piston alloy. Due to its high silicon content, the alloy shows low ductility and is difficult to press. EGA Leichtmetall is also able to cast special non-standard variants of this alloy with over 20 per cent silicon.
We offer EN AW-4032 turned billets in diameters ranging from 140 mm to 1,080 mm, tailored to meet your specific needs.
EN AW-4032 applications
EN AW-4032 is primarily used in turbine or engine construction, wherever high strength at elevated temperatures is required. Its primary applications include:
- Aerospace: Components that require high mechanical strength benefit from the alloy's high strength and temperature resistance.
- Automotive: Pistons, bushings, engine components.
Mechanical properties
The mechanical properties of EN AW-4032 make it suitable for high-resistance applications. Although there is no standard for cast round rods, a Brinell hardness of approximately 70–90 HBW in the homogenised state serves as a reference value for cast material. This state is comparable in strength to the annealed state ("O") for extruded products. Final strength can be adjusted through reshaping processes or heat treatments performed by our customers.
