EGA Leichtmetall strengthens regional economic growth with new plant in Steyerberg, Lower Saxony

Investment in new site

Hanover, January 20, 2026 – EGA Leichtmetall is building a new plant in the GreenTec Park Steyerberg, in the Nienburg/Weser region. Following the announcement last December of an investment of around €145 million, the company has now confirmed the location.

The long‑established Hanover‑based company will increase its recycling capacity sixfold and create around 200 direct jobs with the new facility – a strong signal of investment in Lower Saxony. A further focus is processing post‑consumer scrap. End‑of‑life products from Germany and Europe can be recycled directly on site, further shortening supply chains.

“Industry is crucial to Lower Saxony’s economy. EGA Leichtmetall’s investment sends a strong signal about the future strength of our industrial base, safeguarding jobs for the long term and driving innovation,” says Grant Hendrik Tonne, Lower Saxony’s Minister for Economic Affairs.

Once operational, the production will take place entirely indoors within enclosed halls. Designed around circular‑economy principles, the plant will prioritise high efficiency, low greenhouse gas emissions and near‑zero‑waste production processes. Measures include the utilisation of waste heat, the use of electricity from renewable sources and the integration of solar photovoltaic systems. The region will benefit in multiple ways from the new facility in Steyerberg.

Marcus Meyer, Mayor of Steyerberg, emphasises: “We are delighted that EGA Leichtmetall has chosen Steyerberg as its location and look forward to working closely with them. The new plant will create outstanding local perspectives, particularly for skilled employment, strengthen local supply structures, and anchor value creation here permanently.”

Growth and local jobs

Around two thirds of the new roles will be in production, with roughly one third in administration and sales. On the production side, roles will include shift supervision, metal handling, machine operations, and positions for metal fabricators and electricians; apprenticeships are also planned.

“Our priority is a site that remains competitive in the long term and offers our employees predictability, stability and real perspectives. We are continuing what defines us as a long‑standing company: rigorous quality leadership, strong process discipline, dependable commitments to our customers and a working environment where professionalism, safety and teamwork matter,” says Thomas Witte, CEO of EGA Leichtmetall.

The existing plant in Hanover‑Linden and the new location will be managed under a single leadership. Operationally, the sites will initially work independently while leveraging synergies.

Location decision for Steyerberg

The GreenTec Park Steyerberg is an innovative, multi-user industrial park in the heart of Lower Saxony and a future-oriented location for sustainable industry. Its development is built on a close public–private partnership between the park operator and the municipality of Steyerberg, with a shared ambition to balance environmental, economic and social sustainability.

By choosing to locate and invest in the GreenTec Park, EGA Leichtmetall will strengthen regional value creation and actively support transformation in the rural area. EGA Leichtmetall’s new plant is expected to be one of the larger operations among incoming businesses at the GreenTec Park and will therefore play a central role on the site.
