The long-established Hanover-based company EGA Leichtmetall has received the DNV certification CP-0248 for wrought aluminium alloys for shipbuilding.
Hanover, May 22, 2025 - Following successful DNV certification: EGA Leichtmetall, the European quality market leader for high-strength large-diameter aluminium alloys of up to 1,080 millimetres, announced the production of aluminium hard alloy billets for customers in the marine sector.
The long-established Hanover-based company EGA Leichtmetall has received the DNV certification CP-0248 for wrought aluminium alloys for shipbuilding. The subsidiary of Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) is therefore certified to produce billets up to a diameter of 1,080 millimetres for the following alloys:
With the DNV certification, EGA Leichtmetall will now supply aluminium to customers in the marine industry. EGA Leichtmetall currently serves customers in industries such as aerospace, defence, heavy engineering and automotive.
“Achieving the DNV certification is a significant step forward for us in entering the marine sector,” says Thomas Witte, Managing Director of EGA Leichtmetall. “With our aluminium billets up to 1,080 millimetres in diameter, we can now meet the demands of complex shipbuilding projects for our customers.”
Aluminium is lightweight, robust, durable, corrosion-resistant, electrically and thermally conductive, and infinitely recyclable. These properties make aluminium an ideal material for a range of complex applications, such as structural components, profiles or hydraulic pipes, especially in the marine sector and shipbuilding, where quality, performance and resistance are crucial.
EGA Leichtmetall was acquired by Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the world's leading producer of “premium aluminium”, in 2024. The move into the marine segment is part of a growth strategy by the aluminium experts from Hanover.
